Cape Barren Goose: The Icon of the Furneaux Group

Few birds are as tied to these islands as the Cape Barren goose. Once rare enough to be a conservation worry, careful management has brought strong numbers back to the Furneaux Group, and today the islands are the heart of its range.

A bird of the islands

Stocky, grey and marked with that unmistakable lime green cere over the bill, the Cape Barren goose grazes the pasture and tussock of the outer islands. They are strong fliers and wary birds, which makes a guided hunt in the right season both a challenge and a privilege.

Hunt it right

Seasons, bag limits and licences all apply, and they matter. We only run hunts inside the legal season with licensed local guides who know the ground and the rules. Nowhere else in Australia can you combine goose, quail, duck and wallaby in a single weekend the way you can here.

See our hunting tours or read the hunting FAQ before you plan a trip.
